THE CHRONICLE

Last Friday, more than 100 students, parents and faculty members at Diggs-Latham Elementary School came together to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. During the celebration held inside the gym, students and parents dined on authentic Mexican cuisine while enjoying a number of performances designed to mark the joyous occasion.

Those in attendance were also treated to a short history lesson as well. While many believe Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of Mexico’s independence, that is not true. The holiday celebrated on May 5 actually marks the day Mexican soldiers defeated a well-equipped French Army at the Battle of Pueblo.
